The Black Diamond Support Foundation Empowerment team were in Makoko community in Yaba local government area of Lagos state from the 24th to 27th of July 2018. The aim was to train as many indigent young girls and women living in the slum to be financially independent to fend and train their children and Certificates were issued to all participants.
Indigent girls and women were trained on how to make pastries, how to tie a head-tie (gele) and the art of professional make up, bead making. Detergents, disinfectants and insecticide making too. Asides the physical process of these businesses, they were also trained on the financial aspect of the business.
We were able to train seventy (70) young girls and women and we believe they are on the route to financial sustenance for themselves and their families.
We rounded up the program on the 27th, with a free HIV screening for the community by health professionals, distribution of free condoms and sanitary pads too, we also distributed some back2school items to the kids, and we had a sensitization talk on rape, sexual & physical abuse and domestic violence.
