Sensitization on stigmatization of widows, single parents, people with health challenges and empowerment of the widows, pregnant single ladies and single mums!

Founded in 2011, Black Diamonds Support Foundation started with a dream to help single mums, widows and widowers in Lagos, Nigeria. Being in any of these categories comes with its own level of Stigma, we are working on reorienting people and enlightening them on the ills of stigmatization.

In addition, it is our goal to reach out to teenage girls in local communities by providing them with gift items with the purpose of informing them that they are valuable and when they understand their identity they will not give themselves cheaply to men and become mothers of unplanned babies.

Part of our objective is to help set up and empower divorced or separated pregnant women, single mothers and widows with vocational training skills by providing equipment for them and necessary coaching and tutoring. This would enable them make a decent living for themselves.

Our organization is also passionate about helping women who have been through any form of abuse by providing psychological and material support for them. We also strive on making them financially independent, which is one of the major reasons why many women stick to abusive partners.

Despite advances in standard of living of the population, the condition of widows and divorced women remains deplorable in the society. The situation is worse in developing nations like Nigeria with their unique social, cultural and economic milieu. The life expectancy of men and women in both developing and developed nations is very low. This coupled with greater multiple marriage rates in men ensures that the number of widows continues to exceed that of widowers.

We plan to;

• House sexually & physically abused women, pregnant girls and single new mothers in safe houses to learn and heal too.

• Provide prenatal Care- checkups, medical assistance for healthy deliveries, hygienic environment to raise kids, and regular nutritious healthy meals for mother and baby.

• Employ widows as chaperones to guide the new mums.

• Counsel depressed women, rape recovery victims, sexually and physically abused women.

• Reach out to single mothers outside the residences in neighboring slums through the #reachingtheslums project.
