Procurement Report

Hmmmm hmmmm

When i was told i will be the subhead of procurement hmmm I was like why me I now sit back and think on how to go about it and i hand it over to God to help me Because if I fail everything fails  I’ll even wake up and go to market when am not suppose to go and come back like that because all my mind was in the project Even my family decide to let me be and I told my husband that I’ll give him anything he want but after the project lol

Hmmm fund fund

Fund is another thing on is own When i ask for money and I was told no fund yet am always sad and I will pray and say God will provide This makes me to decide to delicate my one week programme for the success of the project

(This is my secret)

And i tell it to God that if he provides for the project I will come and testify to his goodness and believe me he answer my prayer and even provide truck for us

Hmmm truck the yellow truck Yes the yellow truck is God that provide the truck on his own because if you ask me i don’t know what to say about it even at times when we need the truck and I called for it and they says is not available I’ll be down thou and the next call i will receive is that I should send someone to come and pick the truck I remember the person in charge of the truck once told me that the God of BDSF is alive and I said yes he’s a living God and he answers prayer

And that is how God did project 5000Kids 2018 for us

And i know he will do years to come too in Jesus Name Amen!!!!!!

Security Report

I was surprised, shocked and unsure of how i will deliver when i received a message that i am the Sub-Committee Chairman in charge of security. Small me!  I was scared because i had never had any prior experience in security. I thought it was an easy task not until Boss Lady gave me a brief, then, I knew securing the lives and properties of volunteers, children and the venue was going to be tasking job. People volunteered to become part of the team. And YES, i had the most wonderful team! We had series of meetings and we came to conclusion of hiring external security officers inorder to make our assignment delivered. Work started in earnest and letters were submitted to the Division of the Legion, Nigerian Navy, RRS, Halogen Security and LASTMA. Offices were visited severally, calls were made occasionally, deliberation were made back and forth and at the end of the day, we received positive news. Initially, i was scared about my team members as i haven’t met some before and how they will feel taking orders from me and my fears were allayed and all of them went out of their way to work as a team.  At first, I thought project 5000 was a small project not until i followed procurement and logistics heads to the market to move the bottles and bags that was when i knew what 5000 truly means, so i had to assist in doing other assignments aside  security like being a driver, loader and cow catcher 😂. The day i won’t forget was when we went  to buy the cows , we nearly got to Ibadan even google map(procurement head) was not sure of the route. On getting there, Boss Lady started feeling sorry for the cows telling me “they have innocent look in their eyes” (in my mind i was like kill this thing jor, lol), i had to hold my life in my hands cause of the stubborn cows that were just misbehaving and we even bought a stubborn cow that shakes the truck every 10min to a point we were moving at 20km(I’m sure if i jog, I’m faster than that), thank God we got home safely.

The Big Day,  Dec 26th came,  getting to the stadium very early and few security team members were on ground got me scared, I never prayed that much before but I became a prayer warrior that morning. Then, my team members started trooping in, same as external security officers. We had Walkie talkies for the sub heads and security members, hearing the sound “over and out” everywhere gave me joy. Everything went out as planned all thanks to God

Project5000 was indeed awesome!

Gift & Packaging Report

Project5000 to me is just a massive love feast organized to put smiles on the faces of indigent kids by feeding, providing medical checkups, fun, games and giving them gift packs as souvenirs to take home. I was thrust  into been the sub-head for the gifts and packaging unit/department.

Basically the duties of the dept. will entail packing all the gifts items into a pack for each child to take home ,so packing for over 5000+ kids was definitely not going to be an easy task. In addition,we were also in Charge of Sorting Clothes ,shoes and any other things to give the children.  In line with this there would be a Stand provided @Venue for parents and kids to come pick from at a  stipulated time. Because of the nature of our various personal lives, with the yuletide festivities in the air and end of year and it’s various hiccups 😆myself and my team knew we had to put in a lot of sacrifice to meet up before the D-day of 26th.  Through online meetings ,we were able to strategically organise and plan ourselves to meet-up and through superhuman efforts ,commitment and teamwork spirit that BDSF stands for accomplish the task of packaging the gifts items before the Event-day. Yippee hurray !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So duty one was done and dusted and we now had to wait on till the D-day 26th to prepare for the Clothes section giveaways . On the 26th of December , the packaged gift items for the kids  were duly handed over to the Community mobilising unit head officer. We then swung into action in arranging the Clothing and personal items giveaway on tables for easy sorting. We had different sections of clothings for babies, toddlers, pre-teens,teenagers and adults. And at the stipulated period during the event,  various people filed in to pick up useful clothings and accessories that they needed . I had so much fun with my team and other volunteers in making the 3rd edition of project5000 a resounding success even with the various obstacles ,we all pulled through and we WILL continue to do all we can for the cause.

Media & Entertainment Report

Hmmmmm if you ask me to talk about this project, I have a million words to say. A million words that shows my fears, my anxiety, my reservations and my trust in God. A quick one on why I might have more than a million words. You see I was suddenly called upon hmm, no it was a message, that I have been picked to be in charge of the Media and entertainment group for the project. I was amazed and short of words at the selection, loads of thought flashed through me on why I was chosen amongst many. After all I am not Jesus. I wondered how I would achieve what was expected of me. Don’t get me wrong as a qualified event planner ( as if I learnt it in school), I have planned series of events without fear or worry. But  my reservation for project 5000 came because I had just relocated to Lagos and never attended any project 5000 before. But I accepted the responsibility after all humanity understands all languages and culture.

Haven accepted the role, I dived hard into it and I realised these;

*There has never been a media and entertainment group for the project before me, hence I need to create a standard that will entice everyone and make them understand that media and entertainment group has come to stay.

*In my years as an event planner I have never organized an event for 5000 children, my maximum was 1000 and it was a ticketed event which meant the children where more exposed and didn’t require too much monitoring.

* Because of the nature of the children who were expected at the event, I couldn’t make use of some of the activities or equipment on my ‘A’ list ( imagine, bouncing castle was cut out. ), who does that and still has fun.

*The children were expected from different slums, which meant there would be some who won’t speak English or understand it and I must carry all of them along during the show. (Hmmmmm, may God help me)

With all these reservations I promised myself and my team that we would give it our best, ensure all the kids had fun. Moreover a good  event planner is judged by the ability to give the best to a client based on what her client wants.Oh! I forgot to mention money… Finance was another challenge. Have been a BDSF volunteer  for years now(not the Lagos zone though) and I know we work on the little we have since we don’t get grants from anyone. Same thing applies to project 5000 . we were to work on a budget. After series of meeting both online and off line we came up with a master plan. (Don’t ask me about, its our little secret. #winks) Finally 26, December 2018 came. The D.day. we swung into action using our master plan and it was fun all the way. Especially the joyous screams from the children when Santa arrived with loads of goodie bags. I can say the kids all had fun and their screams of joy will remain evergreen. Thanks to ‘Big cola’, ‘Nestle Milo’  The BDSF family, My crew, and the kids we all had fun.  26, December  wasn’t just a boxing day for me, it was a date with humanity and a day with my BDSF family. After all BDSF is beyond one person, beyond an NGO, it is a body of people who are connected by their love for humanity and won’t be stopped by any obstacle. Project 5000, is over but its memory lingers on. Every time I think of the success of the event, I just wear a broad smile, because, I feel fulfilled knowing I was able to do something and I have added another feather to my business cap.  Loads of love to Black Diamond Support Foundation (BDSF).

Hospitality Report

BDSF project 5000 is about celebrating Christmas with 5000 indigent children within Lagos by hosting a Christmas party where we feed, give medical aids as well as provide them with back to school materials. We have done this successfully for two consecutive years with the help of our dedicated and selfless volunteers.  For our third edition, there was need to create a special department (hospitality department) of people who will cater for our volunteers while they attended to the children.

When I was added to the hospitality group and informed that I will be the team head by our national coordinator, I was a bit unsure of myself because I wasn’t in Lagos.  On the 26th of December, my teammates and I went round the stadium several times to share water,  biscuits and sweets to our volunteers. We also gave flip flops and handkerchief to volunteers who asked for it. In the evening we served small chops and later all volunteers came together to dine and take pictures.  I will like to really appreciate my team members,  they have made the past 6 weeks ago fun filled experience. I will also like to thank BDSF founder, Madam Defunke Adewunmi,  BDSF  National coordinator, Mr Emeka S C  Iweka and all other board members for this honour to serve.

Logistics Report

When the Co-founder of BDSF announced the commence of Project 5000 I was like Ope o. When I was announced as the sub head for logistics It landed like a bomb in my ears. But, wetin I won do Oga Emeka & bosslady don do coup for my matter. It was a call for double selfless service for humanity. For days, I was thinking on how to plan the logistics for project 5,000 and with ease as that was my first time of handling such a large & huge event. When it was time for market shopping, I and the Procurement personnel trekked the hooks & crannies of Idumota market for best products with good quality & not too expensive because our Ogas will question us taya has they don give us enough training for pricing level & the journey to Idumota continued so tey Idumota buildings don know us.

After buying the first set of the things needed for the event, the problem was how to transport the goods becomes a bone of contention as we are still trusting God for a truck. Ha! My brain was working non stop like Mikano generator suddenly, I remembered one of our big sis in BDSF who usually gives us Hilux. Gbam!!! I called her & immediately she granted my request. I suggested online registration for volunteers on the group. Bosslady just gave me the responsibility. I was like why now this woman Lol. The registration form was designed and registration for volunteers started. My people few days to the event enough never show to purchase others items for the event. I was walking on the road deep in thought & started weeping to baba God for a miracle. I waka go bosslady’s house the following morning guess what? Na good news I hear. When I remembered how we usually cry for joy anytime God surprises us when we thought all hope was lost shows he is the originator of BDSF & na only him dey rush us.
